Imaging Guidelines
The following images show some common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
Excessive shadow
The photograph contains excessive shadow due to oblique lighting
The photograph is taken with diffuse lighting and the o-ring is not partially obscured by shadow
Lack of focus
The photograph is taken too close to the o-ring, and the camera is unable to focus
For small o-rings, taking the picture from further out to achieve focus is required
Perspective skew
The camera is not perpendicular to the plane of the grid
The camera is approximately perpendicular to the grid, there is minimal perspective skewing
Too far
The o-ring is too small in the photograph (this is acceptable for small o-rings where it is required to achieve focus)
The o-ring is taking up the correct amount of space in the photograph
Off-center
The o-ring is not centered in the photograph
The o-ring is approximately at the center of the photograph
Incorrect grid
The o-ring is too large for the grid
The correct size (A3) grid is used
Rotation
The grid is not aligned with the vertical direction of the photograph
The grid is correctly aligned with the vertical direction of the photograph
Obstruction
The photograph contains debris or other artefacts that are not the grid or the o-ring
There are no other items in the photograph
